Catching up!

For those of you that don't know, Shane is currently doing a four week rotation in Houston and is, therefore, not in San Antonio during the week, but is able to make it back home on the weekends…thank goodness. Not having help at some point during the weekday has left me feeling extra tired in the evenings. As a result, I haven't posted in a while, but am trying to catch up!

Amelia's 1st professional haircut!

Feeling beautiful!

Hitting the birthday circuit...princess style!
The invited guests were able to choose a costume from a very long rack of princess dresses and knight uniforms. After Cinderella's grand entrance to the party, Amelia quickly grabbed the mini-me version of the same dress and became Cinderella's shadow for the remainder of the party.

Can you spy Amelia glued to Cinderella's side?

Dining out at the "Magic Time Machine."

The "Magic Time Machine" is a restaurant I remember visiting while vacationing with my family in high school.  When Shane and I moved to San Antonio I quickly spied this restaurant while running errands, and knew someday we would make a visit to this memorable place.  That "someday" presented itself last weekend when a change of scenery was definitely needed....and a change of scenery is just what the kids got.  In fact, Audrey wasn't sure what to think of the "Joker" and "Marilyn Monroe".....check out the picture below.

You can't tell by the picture, but Avery and Ameilia's drinks were both smoking with dry ice...very cool for a 3 and 5 year old.

Popcorn!

Popcorn stuck to Audrey's face after suffering from a runny nose.

Flag Football!

Avery spent most of his time chasing anybody with a flag rather than the person carrying the football, whether Avery was on defense or offense...we have a long way to go...HA!

Big Win for Husker Nation!!!!

Well, last night was a big night for Nebraskans everywhere.  Despite a disappointing end to the football and volleyball seasons, and a disappointing loss to Kansas at Allen Field House (basketball), we came home with the mother of all wins.  For the first time in history, Nebraska won the Miss America Scholarship (beauty) Pageant, and what a big win it was.  TOTAL REDEMPTION!!  I have to be honest, when Diane started making me watch the program on ABC last I was not excited.  For heaven sakes we could have been watching 'Dirtiest Jobs' or 'House Hunters International'.  But after making the first cut, it continued to get more and more interesting.  And as you can see from the pictures, by the end it was almost as good as watching Nebraska win the BCS championship.  Who needs the Big 12 conference anyway?  Obviously, there were no Big 12 football referees judging this one!  You go Teresa!!!  Gooooo Biiiiiiig Reeeeeeeeed, GO BIG RED!

Side by Side - 3 months to 12 months

Sometimes it saddens me that I didn't start blogging after Avery was born.  For me, blogging is a way of documenting my children's lives; a proof of life, an electronic journal of their daily happenings.  I believe recording “the story of me” for each of my children, is one of the greatest gifts, as a mother, I can give my family.  Most importantly I want to show Avery, Amelia, and Audrey that they were loved.

After Audrey’s one year photo shoot, I pulled out all the professional pictures taken of my three babes. It was surreal looking at the growth and changes in each of my children over a one year time span. Sometimes when I look at these photos I long to hold the babies that my children once were, but know I should enjoy the “now” before the present passes. Avery is only 5, Amelia is almost 4, and Audrey is 13 months. I know they are still young, but gosh time seems to fly by.

3 Months
This is Avery's 3 month old photo. However, here are his 2 month stats:
Weight: 12lbs 2 oz - 60th percentile
Length: 22.75 in - 45th percentile

Amelia's 3 month photo - 2 month stats
Weight:  13lbs 2 oz - 90th percentile
Length:  24 in - 98th percentile

Audrey's 3 month photo - 2 month stats
Weight:  11lbs 9 oz - 73rd percentile
Height:  23.5 in - 83rd percentile

6 Months

Avery's 6 month photo - 6 month stats
Weigh:  16.98 lbs - 50th percentile
Length:  27.56  - 85th percentile

Amelia's 6 month photo - 6 month stats
Weight:  16.1 lbs - 90th percentile
Height: 26.2 inches - 98th percentile

Audrey's 6 month photo - 6 month stats
Weight:  13lbs 8 oz - 70th percentile
Height:  25 in - 75th percentile

9 Months

Unfortunately, I do not have stats on my kiddos at 9 months, as this is typical standard of care in the military health care system (no 8-9 month well baby checks unless needed). However, I will comment on each of their growth from a non-medical perspective, mine. Avery's growth has always surprised me. At times he seems like other boys his age in terms of growth, and there are times he seems much bigger. For example, at 18 months of age not only was he tall but he was a chunk. Additionally, at four years of age Avery was taller than most boys his age. However, at age 5 he seems to be the same height as his peers. This is also evident on this growth chart posted in his room. He goes through growth spurts and just stops for long periods of time. His growth seems very sporadic.

Amelia has always been a big girl.  She consistently tops off the growth chart in all categories.  At age 3.75 she is a couple of inches shorter than her 5 year old brother.  I do wonder if she will continue to grow at the same rate.  If she does, she will surely be taller than me.  Looking up at my daughter seems like a strange thought at the moment.

Audrey seems to be on the same growth track as Amelia.  If so, I’m sure to be the shortest member of our family at 5.5 ½ inches.

1 Year Old

Avery's 12 month photo - 12 month stats

Height:  32 in - 99th percentile

Weight:  22.27 lbs - 66th percentile
Height:  31.1 in - 94th percentile

Sneaking Snacks!

I keep my bread in a pullout drawer on a bottom cabinet shelf.  It never occurred to me that while I was busy with Avery and Amelia, Audrey might sneak away, discover this secret find and indulge in what has turned out to be a morning, midday, afternoon, and evening snack.  It seems lately, if I can’t find Audrey, I ‘m sure to find her enjoying a moist slice of bread with an incriminating bread bag by her side.  I chuckle every time I see her nibbling away, but found this new habit has led to a low bread supply and am considering relocating the bread…….or not….this is too cute.

Hello 2011!

Wow, I can't believe it's 2011!.....and 2010 was such a fantastic year.  I’d like to say we rang in the New Year by celebrating with adults, staying up until midnight, and sealing the evening with a kiss.  However, we are boring, and chose an afternoon at the children’s museum with the kids, lunch at the “Buckhorn Café” including a delicious, artery clogging “fried Twinkie”, a less than stellar movie from Netflix, and an early bedtime of 10 p.m…..and it felt good!!!  I’m sure years from now we might regret not spending our evening in a more memorable way, but on January 1st waking up well rested with 3 little ones ready to tackle the day, I didn’t regret it one bit…Happy New Year!
