Father Daughter Dance & Date Night with Avery

This past March, Shane and Amelia attended a father-daughter dance at Champions.  Audrey ended up going to a sleep-over at a friends house, but choosing the sleep-over, rather than the dance, was a tough choice.  Amelia was super excited to attend for a number of reasons, but going with her dad in this dress may have been at the very top.  From the moment she brought this dress home, to the moment she put it on, I knew it made her feel pretty (thanks Oma).  While at the dance they boogied, slurped up Shirley Temples, and took a scenic carriage ride.  Next year, dad gets to take Aggie.

While Shane and the girls were out, Avery and I had date night.  We dined at Grey Plume and enjoyed sampling their menu and trying various virgin drinks.  After our dinner we headed to Moylan's for a few spins around the ice skating rink.  Avery lapped me about a dozen times, fell down about the same amount, and attempted to skate backwards with a small amount of success.  It was fun and care-free, and the way I will always remember Avery at this age.

Return Ski Trip and Zoo Visit

Shane and older kids made a return ski trip to Steamboat.  Since our last trip was cut short, Avery was eager to hit the slopes one more time, before the close of ski season.  I think he got is fill second time around.

While everyone else was in Steamboat, Aggie and I hung back in Omaha and enjoyed our alone time together.  During that time we made a highly anticipated zoo visit.  I think her favorite was the butterfly garden, although she did spend a good five minutes being mesmerized by the fish, so maybe it's a toss up.

Catch Up - Round # 2

1.  Aggie is a busy girl!  When given the chance to grocery shop, she runs directly for the miniature grocery carts, snags one, and obediently follows me around, grabbing items here and there, all within arms reach.  She also likes to undress and run around in the nude.  On the other hand, she equally enjoys putting her pj's over her clothes or digging through the laundry basket and layering basketball uniforms.  She has become more adventurous; climbing on the furniture, jumping off of the furniture, or hiding under the furniture.

2.  On St. Patrick's Day we ordered king cake, I made jambalaya, and we dined New Orlean's style.  This year Avery found the baby.

 3.  On Pi Day Avery made an apple pie, no recipe used.  He made two pies and took one to school for math class and saved the other for an evening dessert. Teachers, classmates, and family members gave him two thumbs up.

4.  Jamie and I attended the Justin Timberlake concert.  JT was awesome, but the best part was catching up with one of my best friends from college.  Thx Jamie!

Valentine's Day 2019

This past Valentine's Day the family awoke to a table full of goodies, including Avery's own version of an "Edible Arrangements" bouquet.
Audrey was released from school early, so the kids and I headed to Hiro 88 for a bento box lunch.  The kids were/are all into Harry Potter, some for the first time and some for the third, so they spent their wait time buried in their books.  Aggie and I played games on her Leap Pad.
Avery, Amelia, and Audrey have all been begging me to let them make chocolate covered strawberries, so Valentine's Day I granted their wish.  They covered fruit and made some of their own strange concoctions.  My favorite, chocolate covered nuts.

Catch Up - Round #1

Since December I have been working on a few graduate level classes to keep my teaching certification current.  Unfortunately, I used all of my free time to complete class work, and was left will little time for blogging.  However, I am done...finally, and boy does it feel good!  Now it's time to play catch-up.

1.  I took Amelia, Audrey, and one of Audrey's friends to go see Aladdin.  This is our second time seeing Aladdin, but the girls still love the Genie.

2.  Aggie just wants to be part of the gang.  If the kids do school work, she plays by their table.  If they go outside, she wants to come too.

3.  While Shane was in North Platte doing some moonlighting, Avery volunteered to make dinner one night.  He made fried chicken, without a recipe, and for the first time, as his main selection.  The meal turned out beautifully, and as a bonus, he cleaned up the kitchen. This boy would love to participate in "Chopped Junior".

4.  What can I say. Aggie loves butter.

5.  Aggie and I had lunch with Audrey at school.  As a surprise I brought her a cookie.  Audrey brings her lunch everyday and talks constantly about the cookies the "lunch kids" have as a side; that she doesn't get to have.  On this particular afternoon, that cookie made her day.
