The day before Amelia's birthday we headed to Medieval Putt with some friends for a birthday celebration. Oma and Oma made the trek to Omaha to join in on the fun. It should be noted that Amelia is a girl who loves a party, but she is happiest when surrounded by kind, caring people, who know how to make her feel special, especially on her birthday, and those that attended did just that!
On April 1st, we celebrated Amelia's birthday, at home, as a family. She wanted a strawberry cake, so we all pitched in, including Amelia, cause that's how she likes it, and made a strawberry cake. The cake was a bit of a disappointment. However, left-overs were gone two days later, so not too much of a let down.
These are the things I want to remember as Amelia turns 12.
1. You are a sweet girl. It's always been your disposition, ever since you were a baby.
2. Your smile is contagious. It never fails, every morning, unless completely under the weather, you wake-up with a big smile on your face. Your smile makes me smile. Thank you for that.
3. You are a wonderful babysitter. I've know for a long time that you love little children. When you grow up you want to be a mother. You are a natural with your little sister and are proving to be a wonderful babysitter.
4. If you had a choice between sports or participating in drama, hands down, you would choose drama. Sports are just 'OK' in your book, and you honestly don't understand the hype. Being competitive does not come to you naturally, it's something you have to reach deep inside for. However, I've seen it, it's there.
5. Crocheting is your latest hobby and you seem to like it. It's something you picked up, mostly on your own, and do on your own. At the moment you are crocheting a scarf for the county fair.
6. You love a good movie. In fact, if we could do 'movie night' every weekend, you would be a happy camper. There's nothing more you enjoy than snuggling up with family members, with a big bowl of popcorn in your lap, watching the latest movie release 'On Demand'.
7. 'Fish in a Tree' is our latest read and you are very much 'into' this book. The main character in this book has a high EQ and you most definitely identity with her ability to understand other's emotions.
8. Audrey and you continue to share a room. Your late evening talks, after light are out, are some of your favorite times together. I giggle because one of your favorite subjects is talking about what the kids had at lunch at SVdP. Audrey brings her lunch, and therefore, does not eat hot lunch. However, 'hot lunch' is a 'hot' topic of conversation during bedtime.
9. Rachel Mann was one of your best friends at the Collegium Study Center in Colorado Springs. Both of you are great pen pals. If fact, when one of her letters arrives in the mail, you race upstairs, close the door, and savor every word on her written page. Receiving one of her letters is the highlight of your week. You miss her and she misses you.
10. You are a huge helper. Honestly, things just don't run as smooth without your presence. If I'm not around and Aggie needs help you step right in. When I'm making dinner you are always willing to pitch in. Really, it's the little things you do that make a world of difference in our day to day life. We are blessed to have you as a daughter.
