The girls always have big project ambitions once the fair rolls around. However, the mystical effects of summer always inhibit the motivation to actually follow through with project completion. This year, besides their sewn outfits, the girls mustered enough focus to throw together some last minute projects and entered them in the fair. Like always, at the end of the fair, they both vowed to start earlier next year, so their grandiose ideas wouldn't dissolve into thin air. However, I'm not holding my breath, and while I desire both girls to hone their self-starting independence, I also acknowledge most project entires are originally sourced from mom. Even so, the projects the girls did enter were mostly their own doing with a little guidance along the way.
Audrey walked away with several awards.
Audrey was super proud of her cat drawing.
Avery decided to forgo 4-H entries and just entered his carved items in open class.
Amelia loves this dress.
Audrey loves this dress.
One of my favorite parts of 4-H is watching the girls wear their outfits for various occasions. Amelia will definitely wear these pants this fall.
The girls both entered original poems.
Audrey's 'Faces of History' paper always makes a nice entry.
After looking at fair results, the kiddos are always eager to hit the mid-way!
Aggie waited all summer to ride the carousel.
This year the kids divided and conquered, breaking into groups to hit desired rides. These girls were a trio most of the night.
The midway, which was sourced from one of my favorite states- Texas, was so much fun this year! Not only were the carnies interactive and fun, the games winnable, but the prizes were awesome as well. Rolling these three factors into one made this our favorite midway ever!
After playing a couple of rounds of basketball, Avery scored this monkey for Aggie. This monkey now sits in Aggie's room. Having said that, to Aggie's angst, Finn has developed a certain liking for this monkey and tortures her when he is in a 'mood'.
This 'slightly competitive' group enjoyed the horse races.
Aggie wanted to play basketball, wanted to do the horse races, and wanted to throw darts to pop balloons; however, after watching everyone else play games, she was more than eager to join in on the fun when she saw the fishing game. While this game was just right for her age, it definitely took some patience and concentration to snag three fish and score a prize.
We originally wanted to watch the stock car races. However, with a start time of 9 pm, we knew it just wouldn't fit our schedule. With that being said, we rode our last ride on the ferris wheel and lucked out by having an awesome view of the races from the top of the ferris wheel.
Per tradition, we ended the evening stuffing our faces with funnel cakes. The Elvis, which includes peanut butter, bananas, and chocolate is always a hit.
