Aggie turned 4 on December 28th. Having a birthday right after Christmas has its challenges, but for our family, it gives us something bright and cheery to look forward to once presents and decorations are put away. In fact, Aggie requested a blueberry cake for her birthday cake. The cake turned out so pretty and yummy, I couldn't help but think of spring!
Aggie was so excited on her birthday! She woke up with '4' on her mind and talked about it all day. When it was time to blow out her candles she had such a genuine glow, it was hard not to smile from ear to ear the entire time. Watching her open presents was a true delight, simply because, she was so thrilled with anything she received from birthday cards, to homemade gifts, to presents. After opening everything, she always said, 'than you' and pressed whatever it was to her chest with closed eyes, kind-of like a mini-hug. She went to bed completely happy. Watching her enjoy her day, as simple has it was, reminded me that being engaged in the present, no matter how little, can bring great joy.
These are the things I want to remember about Aggie as she transitions to her 4's.
1. Books - You love books any time of the day, but especially at nap-time and bedtime. Henry and Mudge, Mr. Putty and Tabby, Paddington, and Chrysanthemum are some of your favorites.
2. Playing - You work beside Audrey and myself, as we work on Audrey's school work most of the day. However, work is not your priority, you are really waiting for Audrey to be done, so you guys can run off for some afternoon fun.
3. Outside - If the weather is cooperative, playing outside is the highlight of your day. You love to run around, take walks, and play at the park.
4. Pretend Sports Player - Anytime the girls are heading to a sports practice you run upstairs and put on a workout outfit, come down the stairs, and announce to all listeners that you are headed off to either volleyball or basketball practice.
5. Technology - You have my phone pretty well fingered out and love my Emotions, Build a House, and Hair Salon apps.
6. Cream Cheese - Like your brother, you have a strange liking for cream cheese.
7. CC - Every Tuesday we head off to CC with your sisters. You talk about CC all week and your friends. You love going to CC and socializing.
8. Made-up friends and stories - Pretend stories and friends occupy a lot of your time. You like to tell stories about your pretend friends, talk on the phone to pretend people, and play in your room pretending anything and everything you have heard or seen.
9. Finn - Finn is your buddy. You like to feed Finn, play with Finn, chase Finn, and torture Finn. Finn may have his problems, but he knows you are 'hands off' and endures whatever you through his way.
10. TV - Paw Patrol and Barbie Dream House are your favorite shows. Throughout the day, we can always catch you saying a phrase from one of these shows. Because Barbie Dream House is so hilarious, hearing a phrase from this show makes us all laugh.
