Aggie Rose - 2nd Birthday

On December 28th, we celebrated Aggie's birthday.  The cousins were in town so we had lots of fun commotion when it was time to blow out candles.  Aggie did a great job of trying to blow out the candles herself.  The kids and I made a yummy lemon curd cake, which Aggie enjoyed.  As for presents Aggie does like the unwrapping part and always seems to enjoy a new gift.  Aggie is fun little girl!  

Aggie Rose 2nd Birthday - Things I want to remember

Oh Aggie Rose, you are the cherry on our cake!  You are such a fun, spunky, lovable little girl.  Everyday with you is a new and exciting adventure.  You are an ever present reminder, in our increasingly busy lives, to stop and smell the roses (no pun intended)!  Here are some very special things I want to remember about you.

1.  You love getting undressed and being naked.  When given the chance you will run and hide and come out ready for a fun day in the buff.

2.  You wake up every morning around 7:00 am, give or take, yelling "come get you".  We love it and it puts a smile on our faces first thing in the morning.  As for your mood, unless sick, you are always  happy and ready to start your day.

3.  For breakfast you love anything with butter.  I put butter in your food purees, pancakes, on top of macadamia nut bread, and on veggies.  If soft butter is on the table you will eat it plain.

4.  You are most happy when everyone is at home.  If we have a babysitter you are fine if at least one of your siblings is staying with the babysitter as well.  However, if you are left alone with a babysitter you cry and beg to "get in the car".  It pulls at my heart strings every time.

5.  We have spent this past month working on potty training, and while you are pretty much potty trained, you only tell me when you have to go potty for number 2.  As for number 1, I have to proactively put you on the potty.  However, when you are at church you tell me all the time you have to "go potty", which you rarely do, because you like running around outside of church service.

6.  Your older sibling do their best to role model good behavior, sometimes they succeed and sometimes they don't.  You do a wonderful job of saying "thank you" when you really want/wanted something and it was received.

7.  Because you attend so many basketball games I have reluctantly given in to letting you play with my phone when games are getting long.  Your favorite app is "Hair Salon" which you simply call "hair" when you want to play.  Additionally, you like watching "Chicka Chicka boom boom", which you call "enough room", as that is the second line of the song.

8.  When the weather is nice you like taking walks, sometimes very long walks, and rarely seem to tire.  The highlight of your walks usually includes several encounters with small dogs.

9.  Bath time is "ok" until we have to wash your hair.  You cry every time I lay you down and pour water over your head.  You only stop crying when I sit you up and tell you that I am all done.

10.  At bedtime you enjoy reading books and will read books with anyone, as long as I am not in the room.  If I am in the room you say "night night" to any extra people until they leave and it is just you and me.

Steamboat 2019

Mid January we headed to Steamboat for a few days of skiing.  Our first day was all sun shine and a visually spectacular day to be out and about. On day 2 we had snow fall and the skiing was fantastic.  Unfortunately on day 3 we decided to head back to Omaha early due to an incoming storm in both Steamboat and Omaha.  The girls were more than OK with that decision, as two days of skiing is enough for them.  However, Avery was totally bummed.  With that being said, we gifted him a day of private ski instructions for his birthday, and he cashed in on that gift before we left.  He was smiling from ear to ear when I picked him up and exclaimed "that was the best skiing ever".  While in Steamboat we did the usual.

Bring a Parent to Volleyball Day

A couple of weeks ago I reluctantly went to Amelia's "Bring a Parent" day at Elite Volleyball.  Honestly, I had a hundred other tasks that I wanted to complete on that particular evening, but went because I knew she really wanted and needed a parent to attend.  I am so grateful that I did because we had the best time!  We spent the evening running through her normal practice, but it was her job to be my teacher.  She did a fantastic job of encouraging and offering up advice when needed. As a resolution, I really want to spent this next year being more mentally present with my child and this activity was just the ticket.  We were both all smiles when the evening was said and done!

Christmas Break & Cousins

Over break we watched movies, went ice skating, attempted to miniature golf, played lots of basketball and some soccer, but the highlight was having the cousins in town.  While they were here many creative games of ping pong took place.  We were also able to get out and go roller skating, an activity the adults may have enjoyed more than the kiddos.  Additionally, we were able to celebrate both John and Aggie's birthdays, as they are one day apart.  Before the cousins departed we rented a limo and went to look at Christmas lights, the best being accompanied by synchronized radio music.  Not sure if this activity was a hit or not, but the hot chocolate and candied popcorn were.
