Our little garden has produced some strange vegetables. We have white fleshed water melon, yellow cucumbers that look like balls, and blue eggplant. However, the one vegetable that has produced prolifically is okra. That's right, we have lots and lots of okra. We have had roasted Okra, sautéd Okra, Okra in soups, and Okra topping various dishes. I've eaten more Okra in the past three months than in the combined years of my life. I'm not dissing the Okra, in fact without the Okra I would consider our garden a complete failure. Okra has given Avery something to harvest, which he does religiously every morning. So with Thanksgiving just around the corner....I am thankful for Okra.

Lets Go Booing!
This past week Shane and I were having a muffled conversation in which the word "sexy" was dropped several times in front of our kids. The details of our conversation were more of an academic debate than "R" rated discussion. However, we both hushed a "red light" word in front of the kids several times. In our house hushing a "red light" word once might work, but several times, and Amelia's on you like stink on a corpse lily. Because she is intuitive and knows the moment something isn't quite right, she sniffed out the word and blurted "sexy" at the lunch table the moment her cognitive wheels deciphered our coded language. Momentarily digressing, she is my child who asks to have any paragraph that involves the word "mating" from our science magazines re-read. She knows something is up, she knows something is not being said, and she knows mom doesn't want to read it more than once. Avery on the other hand is Mr. Concrete, Mr. Objective. He sees the word "mating" as a scientific term, something that simply happens, like plants and photosynthesis. When Amelia blurted the word "sexy" her little parrot, aka Audrey, repeated the word about twenty times. Avery's response lacking the gittyness of his sisters was, "sexy is an adjective." After Avery objectified the word, making it less fun for the girls to say, they quickly stopped and found another silly word to say. The whole scene had Shane and I red faced from laughter.
On another note, fall is in the air! Its time for Halloween and time for Booing. After being "booed" the kids eagerly passed the fun alone. This year Audrey got in on the action and dropped her goodies at her friend Grady's house. They all love ringing the door bell and running!
